The Shoppes at Parma 9/11 World Trade Center I-Beam Unveiling and Memorial Service

Parma, OH, September 8, 2016 – The Shoppes at Parma in collaboration with the City of Parma is pleased to announce that there will be a 9/11 World Trade Center I-beam unveiling and memorial service this Sunday, September 11 at 1:30 p.m. The service will take place at The Shoppes at Parma between Fast Eddie’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods on W. Ridgewood Drive.
The Shoppes at Parma redevelopment will feature this new permanent display to commemorate the events of Sept. 11, 2001 when more than 3,000 people, including more than 400 safety forces officials, died in simultaneous attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania.
The architectural design of the display was made to represent the World Trade Center as it was before the terrorist attacks. The steel I-Beam that will be showcased was recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Center. The I-beam was donated to the Parma Fire Department by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on the condition that the artifact would be used for public display and memorial.
The dedication and ceremony that is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., will include remarks by The Shoppes at Parma, Mayor Tim DeGeeter, Father John Carlin of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, the Parma Fire Department and Parma Police Department. Service will also feature a gun salute, the memorial playing of Taps, and Amazing Grace on bagpipe.
Also onsite from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., the Parma Safety Forces are sponsoring a blood drive. Life Share will have a mobile unit at the Shoppes of Parma on the W. Ridgewood Drive side.
