History and Tradition
Inspired by the Christkindl Market in Nuremberg, Germany, which began in 1545, the Cleveland Christkindl Market brings cherished German and European traditions with international flair and local charm to Cleveland and will soon grow to become one of the most popular winter attractions in North East Ohio.
The Cleveland Christkindl Market is also the perfect place for teachers and professors of the German language to bring their students. Here they have the opportunity to practice skills at the market with numerous German speaking vendors. Several educational activities for students visiting the market include: A visit by St Nicholas, German Door Prizes, interviews with vendors, Christmas decorations workshop or even singing German holiday songs for all to enjoy. At the market, students get to experience authentic German traditions without having to travel far from home. From Kindergartners to graduate students the message is loud and clear: The Christkindl Market is fun, fun, fun!
ClevelandChristkindlmarkt is Free and Open to the Public. This will be from 11 am-8 pm.
Then the SnowFlake Dance starts at 8 pm and there is a nominal $9 cover charge
( Note: This is the last time the Musik Express will be playing at German Central so come along and say 'Auf Wiedersehen' to Hans Gutwein and the boys in the band.)
Everyone is invited to join in the Spirit of the Market by wearing traditional ethnic or holiday attire.
